About the Bee

The Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce it will be hosting the 2023 Denver Civics Bee, one of many pilot National Civics Bee competitions promoted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Local middle school students will have the chance to participate in a first-round essay competition. From the essay submissions, judges will select 20 students to advance to their local Civics Bee competition: a live quiz event testing civics knowledge. Winners will be recognized in their communities and receive prizes.

The top three winners from the local competitions will advance to the Colorado State Civics Bee competition. The local Denver Civics Bee competition will be held on April 18. The Colorado State Civics Bee competition will be held on May 19. More details on the events to come.

How to Enter

If you are a middle school student with an idea about using civics to solve a problem in your community, review the rules and guidelines below. Complete the submission form, including contact information for your parent or guardian, and submit your 500-word essay for consideration. Applications are open!

In order for your essay to qualify, it must be submitted through the application portal by Feb. 24, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MST.

If you wish to mail in your essay, you can physically mail in your application to the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce at 1445 Market Street, Denver, CO 80202.

Why Civics?

We believe that informed and active citizens make for a strong country, a strong economy, and a strong workforce, and that our continued prosperity depends on the strength of all three. The National Civics Bee is a way to promote greater civics knowledge and civic participation across the country, and to energize our community with a celebration of civic pride.

Prizes

Each finalist will receive a certificate. At the local Denver Civics Bee:

The First Place Winner for the Denver Civics Bee will receive a $2,000 cash prize.

The Second Place Winner for the Denver Civics Bee will receive a $1,000 cash prize.

The Third Place Winner for the Denver Civics Bee will receive a $500 cash prize.

For the Colorado State Competition:

The First Place Winner for the state competition will receive a $1,000 cash prize.

The Second Place Winner for the state competition will receive a $500 cash prize.

The Third Place Winner for the state competition will receive a $250 cash prize.
