2024 Business Awards Large Nonprofit of the Year Finalists

Every year, the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce celebrates businesses shaping the future of Denver’s economy. This year’s Large Nonprofit of the Year finalists are Food Bank of the Rockies, Project Angel Heart and Warren Village. Get to know each of the organizations below.

Food Bank of the Rockies

Food Bank of the Rockies stands as the largest hunger-relief organization in the Rocky Mountain region, having championed the fight against food insecurity since 1978. Founded on grassroots efforts, initially collecting surplus bread, the organization has evolved into a cornerstone of community support. Today, distributing over 181,500 meals daily, they serve as a vital member of Feeding America’s network, collaborating with 200 food banks nationwide. Not confined to a traditional food bank model, they leverage strategic partnerships with agricultural groups for diverse food sources, ensuring nutritious options for those in need.

Project Angel Heart

Founded in 1991 in response to the HIV epidemic, Project Angel Heart has evolved over 30+ years. Initially serving those affected by HIV, the organization now supports individuals with various serious illnesses, such as cancer, COPD, and heart failure. Project Angel Heart has prepared and delivered 755,000 meals at no cost to Coloradans living with severe illnesses. These medically tailored meals aid in the nutritional needs of the population they serve. Housed with a culinary team, dietary nutritionists, and many volunteers – their vision has not changed: neighbors serving neighbors. Compassion and hope is in infused in everything they do.

Warren Village

Warren Village, established in 1974 in Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, arose from a community’s recognition of the struggles faced by single-parent families. Driven by the vision of individuals like Dr. Myron Waddell, Warren Village evolved into a beacon of hope, offering housing and early education to single-parent families striving for economic independence. With a mission to foster sustainable personal and economic self-sufficiency, Warren Village provides wrap-around services such as family budgeting and parenting support, alongside its acclaimed five-star rated learning center. Having served over 8,000 families, Warren Village stands as a nationally recognized leader in empowering individuals from poverty towards self-sufficiency, embodying the transformative impact of community-driven initiatives.
