Have you ever tried to walk a mile in someone’s shoes? It’s an age-old question made real at the Empathy Museum – where 30 Coloradans are sharing their own stories, and their shoes, so you can better understand their experience.

I’m honored to be one of 30 Colorado voices in the Empathy Museum, which is open in Tail Tracks Plaza (on 16th Street between Wewatta and Wynkoop) through Sept. 27 as part of the Biennial of the Americas 2019 Festival.

My shoes – my first pair of cycling shoes – may surprise you. What started as a necessary mode of transportation has evolved to one my favorite things to do (and still my favorite way to get around).

But what I realized through this project is that we so easily make assumptions about people and who they are. Those assumptions are always incomplete and often inaccurate, and they keep us from making connections with each other and finding out where we share similar hopes and ideals.

We know that you’re all committed to building a great place to live and work here in Colorado. And we’d love to share your stories.

Kelly Brough is the president and CEO of the Denver Metro Chamber.
