DENVER—JULY 30, The Metro Denver region is experiencing rapid growth, bringing with it a host of complex priorities and opportunities. To bring forward solutions and ideas, the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce (DMCC) hosted the annual State of the City event on July 23, convening public officials with the business community in a way that our region hasn’t seen before. The long-table format allowed businesses to engage directly with over 50 former and current government officials and community leaders from across the Metro Denver region.

The DMCC replaced traditional round tables with long family-style tables, enabling deeper conversations and connections amongst attendees. Representatives from the Metro Mayors Caucus, city council members, county commissioners and other community leaders from across the region joined each table, providing a platform for business leaders and community members to share their perspectives and insights directly with key decision-makers.

The event highlighted the importance of bolstering collaboration between local government and the business community, underscoring the collective effort needed to address the region’s challenges and opportunities.

During the event, Mayor Johnston addressed attendees, reflecting on his past year in office. He covered critical issues such as immigration, downtown revitalization, homelessness and affordability, emphasizing the economic impacts of those initiatives and how his administration and city council are poised to continue to undertake each.

The event saw overwhelming participation and a robust positive response, with true optimism about the future of the entire metro area. Mayors from surrounding regions also highlighted the continued growth and development within their cities. The facilitation style received praise from attendees and prompted discussions on how to further improve the region, with conversation focused on addressing housing costs, economic competitiveness and sustainability.  Additionally, the event provided a unique opportunity for attendees to engage in meaningful conversations, contribute to shaping local policies and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the Metro Denver area.

The DMCC collected feedback from each table and will be releasing themes, solutions and opportunities to support the region’s strategic and intentional growth.

Sponsors for this event included presenting sponsor United Airlines and gold sponsor Longer Tables.
