Our western heritage has shaped how we do business here in Colorado. We’re not shy about rolling up our sleeves to get a job done. We believe a handshake and a person's word can still close a deal. And, we know that straight talk always trumps lip service.
Now, for the 109th year, we city slickers get to play cowboy, donning our favorite boots, bolos and fringe as we kick off the National Western Stock Show at the 21st Boots ‘N Business luncheon. This event draws nearly 1,000 business leaders to celebrate our rich agricultural history.
Agriculture continues to be a critical player in our economy. It sustains more than 170,000 jobs and creates $40 billion in economic activity each year. The workers who make up this industry cluster know the value of working together, from raising barns for generations to working with our technology industry today. In fact, the research and development of leading edge technology for the food and ag industry is growing here two to four times faster than the rest of our economy.
Our agriculture industry is projected to have delivered great Colorado-proud products and food to 109 countries in 2014, bringing in some $2.2 billion. And, our exports have more than doubled since 2009. That’s one thriving industry!
The National Western Stock Show has called Denver home since 1906, and it’s been an important part of our community. Tomorrow at the luncheon, we’ll hear more about how the Stock Show will move forward with plans to revitalize its 130 acres, working with partners like Colorado State University, Denver Museum of Nature & Science and History Colorado. Although the Boots ‘N Business luncheon has sold out, don’t miss your chance to visit the Stock Show while it’s in town. From bull riding to mutton bustin’, there’s fun for the entire family!
