Che Derrera is making the most of his time as an Impact Denver (ID) spring 2020 participant and sharing his insights and experiences with our alumni on The Network, The Network, an online community just for Leadership Foundation alumni.
Derrera, peer specialist for the Community College of Denver Foundation, is our Networker of the Quarter from challenging fellows alums to make the most of The Network to sharing his personal and professional tips for Tip Tuesday.

Elizabeth Prutch: What have you gained from being active on the network?
Derrera: I have gained a deep appreciation for the hard work of those on The Network who remain active not only in their personal and professional lives but in their commitment and work in the community.
Prutch: What is your leadership animal and why?
Derrera: The turtle, not because of his speed or looks, but due to its patience, longevity and resilience! Most of all, a turtle’s ability to weather the elements and protect itself when faced with uncertain dangers. Most importantly, how a turtle has adapted to change, without change we cannot move forward.
Prutch: What are your passions and interests in the community?
Derrera: Revitalization, growth and inclusivity.
Prutch: What Colorado’s Civic DNA attribute would you like to see in the community more and how?
Derrera: All attributes are essential, but responsibility is vital to the others. In order to fully collaborate, include or share a vision, one must first commit to and understand the responsibilities of such. I believe we can achieve this by properly educating and promoting individuals from different demographics and platforms on the value of strong, and deep-rooted concerns, and our responsibility to address them.
Prutch: What has been the most interesting discussion you’ve had on the Network and why?
Derrera: I value my interactions with each member on the Network! Each discussion, group or learning opportunity is a chance to grow, learn and educate those in my community. I look forward engaging in so much more with those on the Network for years to come.
