Participants in the Denver Metro Chamber's 2026 Civics Bee competition

DENVER—April 8, Community members and families gathered to watch the Denver Metro Chamber’s local competition for the National Civics Bee, in partnership with founding partner the Daniels Fund. The National Civics Bee, a program launched by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, aims to create a strong country, economy and workforce through greater civic knowledge and participation.

The competition was open to middle schoolers throughout the Metro Denver region. After receiving more than 300 applicants, 20 finalists were selected to participate in the Denver Metro Chamber’s local contest. From the Denver contest, the top three students were awarded cash prizes, and advanced to the state competition, which will be held by the Colorado Chamber of Commerce on July 24.

The competition was emceed by 9News Morning Anchor, Corey Rose. Special guests included the Grants Program Officer for Daniels Fund, Nick Loyacona; the Director of Education and Curriculum for the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Sam Wood; and Vice President of External Affairs for the Denver Metro Chamber, Leslie Oliver.

“Programs like the National Civics Bee are critical to building a strong future for our communities, economy and country,” said Oliver. “By engaging students at an early age, we’re helping them understand not only how our government works, but how they can play an active role in shaping it. The passion, curiosity and thoughtfulness these students have shown today is a powerful reminder that the next generation is ready to lead, and it’s up to us to continue investing in their civic education and engagement.”

After three rounds of civics-based questions, the top students were awarded cash prizes and a spot in the state competition. These prize amounts are also matched as a donation to the winners’ schools. The 2026 prizes and winners are:

1st Place: Harrison N. – $2,500

2nd Place: Cornelia C. – $1,000

3rd Place: Archer P. – $500

“The Daniels Fund is proud to be the Founding Sponsor of the National Civics Bee to help inspire America’s next generation of leaders,” said President and CEO of the Daniels Fund, Hanna Skandera. “We’re grateful to partners like the Denver Metro Chamber for helping local students become informed, engaged citizens as we celebrate a milestone year for Colorado and our nation.”

The top three students from each regional competition are advancing to the National Civics Bee’s Colorado state competition on July 24, hosted by the Colorado Chamber of Commerce. Top students from state competitions across the country will compete at the national competition in Washington, D.C. this fall.

“We’re proud to continue working with our regional partners across Colorado, strengthening our shared commitment to fostering civic engagement for the next generation,” said Colorado Chamber Foundation Executive Director, Rachel Beck. “Each regional civics bee showcases the growth of this program and the impressive level of knowledge demonstrated by students. By investing in civic education, we’re helping prepare young Coloradans to be informed, engaged participants in our democracy. Congratulations to this year’s regional finalists and we look forward to welcoming them to Denver to compete for the state title!”
