The Start Up CEO exercise is a great opportunity to learn how drug pricing works. You will experience what it’s like to be a CEO of a startup biopharmaceutical company, including making decisions for research and development and pricing a new innovative medicine.
This user-friendly and interactive format will enable you to explore the key considerations, constraints and trade-offs that innovative companies face when bringing new drugs to market, as well as the role pricing plays in creating incentives for the development of current and future therapies. Throughout the exercise, you will vote on key decisions with the opportunity to discuss these decisions with fellow CEO participants for a deeper understanding of the complexity of the biopharmaceutical business model. The exercise is divided into two sections:
Pre-FDA Approval – Make the risky investment decision to treat an unmet medical need with the financial resources available to only invest in one novel therapy for development.
Expected/Post-FDA Approval – Price a new therapy for commercialization while keeping in mind the need to sustain your business and invest in future medical innovation.
This exercise will help you understand the complex decisions that go into bringing a new therapy to market. You will have a greater understanding and appreciation for the risky and costly business model of innovative biopharmaceutical companies.
In this course, you will learn how to project and manage business cash flows, enabling you to better manage your business finances and/or prepare you for borrowing money in your business.
