Sometimes the best choice is not to choose.
Or at least that’s how it seems for voters. In Colorado 35 percent of registered voters are unaffiliated—they don’t identify with a particular party. And, unaffiliated, or independent, voters are the fastest growing bloc among new voters. In Colorado, those voters don’t play a role in selecting the candidates who will run in each election. But that may be changing.
In this episode of On the Job, host and Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kelly Brough talks with state Rep. Dominick Moreno (D-Commerce City), who worked at the Capitol on legislation to involve independents and DaVita HealthCare Partners CEO Kent Thiry, who has worked on voter reform in California through redistricting and has been a leading business voice for opening primaries in Colorado to unaffiliated voters.
