Believe it or not, leadership can be taught. It’s not that different from those “hard skills” you’ve mastered in your career. Here are four pieces of advice from metro area leaders on how to build your skills as a leader:
Get—and Stay—on Track. As a leader you’re no doubt working on personal goals and driving goals for your organization. You’ve got to stay on top those long-term intentions, even when you’re facing day-to-day pressures. Katie Kramer has three tips and shares her favorite way to work on reaching goals.
Remember There’s No I in Team. The best leaders are also among the best collaborators. But to work well with other, you’ve got to start with yourself. GG Johnston says there are five questions to ask yourself to get to more meaningful collaboration.
Get Out of Your Element. You grow when you take risks and push yourself into new situations. Alumni of the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation’s Leadership Denver 2015 class did just that—immersing themselves in tough issues and getting to know people in the community they may not have met otherwise. Be Willing to Adapt. Things will change in your business, and that may mean you have to focus on different leadership skills, too. Find out how entrepreneur Mow Haile continues to adapt and other leadership skills he’s found critical when starting a business.
