This week, United Airlines announced an order for 270 new Boeing and Airbus aircraft, the largest in United’s history. These aircraft will provide a modern, signature feel for passengers and are more fuel efficient. This order creates as many as 25,000 well-paying, unionized jobs, including up to 3,000 here in Denver. Meet the fleet.
The Denver Economic Development & Opportunity’s (DEDO) “Take the Wheel” project was selected to the Equitable Economic Mobility Initiative, a 15-month technical assistance and grant project led by the National League of Cities. The project is aimed at boosting economic mobility for residents while addressing long-standing racial inequalities. Learn more about Denver’s plan focused on financial inclusion and empowerment.
DEDO also announced the hiring of Seneca Holmes as the director of Neighborhood Equity & Stabilization. Holmes will lead a multi-disciplinary team, along with outside community partners, to shepherd public and private resources to specific neighborhoods, including overseeing Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds awarded locally through a competitive bidding process. Centura Health launched its annual Health Equity & Advancement Fund, a $1 million community grant program to extend the impact of community efforts focused on advancing social justice through initiatives that extend health equity across Colorado and western Kansas. Grants will range from $5,000 to $250,000. The deadline to submit an application for a grant is July 31, 2021. Learn more.
